Houston, 1976 - 1992
Union Jack was a very popular clothing store in both
cities for many years, and both were in the heart of
their respective gay ghettos. UK expatriate Richard Longstaff
founded the stores, and all through the early 1980s he was
much in the news himself for his struggle to stay in the U.S.

At first
just Dallas, in 1971, though the earliest ad or mention in the gay press
was in May 1975;
below right, both stores were listed

early
on, the store took on the practice of using local models for the ads

In February
1982 the store moved from 4025 Westheimer
to the more central (to the gay ghetto) location of
1212 Westheimer, just west of "the curve"
