1717
Westheimer & California

a
short-lived Houston gay bar at 1717 California, 1980
...and, DJ Jecker dug up this history on it:
The Rack (circa 1980) @ 1717 California,
was previously Los Troncos
(The Tree House Restaurant). And it had been Los Troncos since the 60s.
It was literally built up into some large trees. Thus the mention of
playing
in the trees in one of your Rack ads posted here.
And while the address of Los Troncos was 1520 Westheimer, it is actually
the same property - where California and Westheimer merge - where the
current Da Marcos, a pricey Italian restaurant, sits today.

The
Drum opening was probably the death warning for the Rack
