Lesbian Tide
July 1971 - June 1980

This page is dedicated to one of the best lesbian publications of our history, Lesbian Tide.
It started as a newsletter of the Los Angeles Chapter of the Daughters of Bilitis (DOB)
and in the Summer of 1971 split out on its own. This was after a riff between the younger and
more radical members and the older members. When it went independent Jeanne Cordova
became Editor, and she achieved a considerable career on her own. Sadly, she passed
away on January 10, 2016, at age 67.

As it expanded distribution it grew into the first national lesbian magazine.
Put together by a small core group like many independent publications they struggled
financially throughout its run, and suspended publication briefly in 1975, and finally
ended its run in with the May/June 1980 issue. Throughout its coverage of lesbian and
feminist issues was first rate, with good balance between the cultural and political, and
they had especially good representation to news of women's music.

I much admire this publication, and while it is not Texas-oriented at all, I wanted
to share the copies I have in my own archives, so they would be available
to those researching lesbian history. If you can provide scans of the missing
covers, or even of the issues themselves, that would be appreciated.

Thanks to Arden Eversmeyer for loaning me the issues for 9/73 to 8-74,
and to Lynn Ballen for the missing cover scans.
(volumes were not numbered until Vol 1-9)

For the first several years it was a monthly, then went bi-monthly in late 1974,
and early issues were 7x 8 1/2", later changing to a more standard 8 1/2x11"
Click on "PDF" for those issues having downloadable files...if there is no "PDF", I don't have it.
If you can help, Please let me know...

Bonus Pub:
In operation since 1975 The Lesbian News is North America's longest-running lesbian publication. From deep in my archives I found copies from Sep 1976, Jan 1977 and Aug 1977, so am sharing those in a single PDF file
