The
Denim Party
1984 to 2012
An
annual dance party fundraiser
Also See Garden Party
The
Denim Party was a party/fundraising effort held at the
country dance club Brazos River Bottom, starting in 1984.
The group Colt 45's had heavy involvement with this event.
It was invitation only, but my impression was that if you
were a regular customer it wasn't hard to end up with
one of the colorful inviations: cotton handkerchiefs.
They included names of the hosts, and after a few years,
times being what they were, the handkerchiefs also included
the names of "heavenly hosts," for those lost, mainly to AIDS.
Appropriately funds raised went to mainly AIDS charities,
like the AIDS Foundation, the AIDS Coalition, Stone Soup, etc.
The event was also scheduled on the same day as the
afternoon Garden Party, so that many partiers went to
both events.
By the way, the handkerchiefs varied in size, with a
couple 12" square ones to several large sizes,
about 16" square, so I had to do four scans of those
and piece them together.
