Breakthrough |
This
section of this site will feature downloadable and searchable PDF
files of Houston Breakthrough, which is a departure for the coverage
of this site. It was, at least for its first few years, a Feminist
Newspaper, with probably less than two percent "lesbian content."
But the late 1970s were important times for the women's movement and
this paper's material was indeed relevant. This includes coverage
I was very pleased to capture, that of the National Women's Conference
in Houston in November 1977. The issues having
a black background, and no link attached to "PDF" are ones
for which I have not had access. |

Instead of a November 1977 issue, Breakthrough had one of its proudest accomplishments: three daily issues during the Interntional Women's Year (IWY) Conference; for the amount of work, a rather insane endeavor |

1980 They celebrated the new decade by becoming a general circulation paper, and changing their byline from "Where Women Are News" to "It's All News to Us." This shift had been coming gradually as their coverage went less just women-oriented to more mainstream, also to reflect their large percentage of male readers. |
